Edges of wrapper sl. worn, boards a little warped. Biography of an architect little feted in his own country but hugely influential in Russia, having been responsible for some of the major buildings at Tsarskoe Selo and Pavlovsk that were commissioned by Empress Catherine II. This account draws heavily on the writings of George Loukomsky, whose own biography of the architect was published in London in 1943, but clarifies some of the mystery surrounding Cameron's early career as a dilettante architectural writer and fair-weather Jacobite. His major book, 'Baths of the Romans' is now extremely scarce. 111 pp., 32 pp. of monochrome photographs.
