5 Gunnerus, Johan Ernst; foreword by Harald Nissen Hans opvaekkelige hyrdebrev til det belaervaerdige, hoj- og bellaerde Praestestab i Trondheims Stift
Jens Christiensen Winding, Trondheim (original); Det gamle Trykkeri (facsimile). 1976 Facsimile reprint of 1758 edition Floriferous hard covers, no jacket As new No Jacket
Facsimile of a book written by the Bishop of Trondheim and printed by Trondheim's first recorded printer, Jens Christensen Winding. Limited edition of 300, of which this is no. 16. The foreword, written by Harald Nissen ( no relation to Claus Nissen, author of Die botanische Buchillustration, Geschichte und Bibliographie) explains that Gunnerus was a scholar, translator of Leibnitz and founder of Det Trondhiemske Selskab, which later became det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab (a famous old natural history society). During his time as Bishop, Gunnerus corresponded with Carl Linnaeus in Uppsala, Sweden and was rewarded with the naming of a new genus Gunnera. Printed in an attractive Gothic font, this book is nicely reprinted on cream paper, and appropriately concludes with a quotation from the Bible, the last two pages being printed in a smaller font (evidently Winding was only just starting to perfect his craft). (4), 40 pp.

11 Kiger, Robert W., Tancin, Charlotte A. & Bridson, Gavin D.R. Index to scientific names of organisms cited in the Linnaean dissertations, together with a synoptic bibliography of the dissertations and a concordance for selected editions
Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation 1999 0 913196 67 3 / 9780913196670 1st edition Hard covers, no dust jacket As new No Jacket
No jacket, but has protective polyester wrapper. This index accounts for over 30,700 occurrences of more than 13,000 different formal names of plant and animal taxa that appear in the original editions of the 186 dissertations defended by students of Carl Linnaeus (from Introduction). The work is also invaluable in helping to disentangle the various collected editions of these theses, those edited by Linnaeus himself being known as Amoenitates Academiae. Frontispiece shows the Jaquemot engraving of Linnaeus; three thesis illustrations are reproduced, of Splachnum, a serpent's skull, and a breeding pair of (un-named) Mercurialis perennis. v, 300 pp.

12 Knapp, S. & Wheeler, Q. (eds.) Letters to Linnaeus
Linnean Society of London 2009 0950620793 / 9780950620794 1st edition Paper covers Fine No Jacket
A curious idea for a book: to commemorate Linnaeus, contributors were invited to write him an imaginary letter - at least, the letters were real but it requires quite a leap of imagination to believe that he could ever receive them. Spoiler alert: some of the letters are nauseatingly self-indulgent.
